Affirmations for the African Child is a partnership between the Fix Scholarship and Diketo Inclusive Education.
Both organizations have a vision of creating inclusive environments where children and youth are empowered. This shared vision has been the heart of the creation of Affirmations for the African Child. All profits made from this product goes back into the services provided by the organizations.
Our products represent marginalised groups and cultures in society, with the intention of recognising, acknowledging and accepting ourselves and differences in others.
Founder of Fix Scholarship
“I have always believed in the theory of Conscious Parenting which has a lot to do with our inner child as parents that we project onto our kids, therefore the intention of these cards is just to pause for a moment, engage with your little ones, listen to them and validate their affirmations.”
Hi I'm Fikile 'Fix' Moeti. I am a Radio & TV personality turned Social Entrepreneur. I have been in the broadcasting industry for over 10 years starting my career at 19 years of age as an MTV VJ and content producer and later becoming a household name on daytime radio at 5FM. Since retiring from radio in April 2021 I am so grateful for the mindfulness journey I am on now. I have co-currently been running my conscious business, the Fix Scholarship, for the past 10 years. This is a registered NPC that focuses on providing educational opportunities to women entrepreneurs that are creating positive impact within their community.
Two years ago, I wanted to create positive affirmations cards for kids. I am deeply passionate about mental health & having gone through absolute trauma while I was pregnant and when my son was born 4yrs ago – I wanted to find a healing tool where he and I could connect & communicate. In essence, as clinical psychologist, Dr Shelfali puts it... 'Parenting consciously'. Just before we went into lockdown I reached out to one of our Fix Scholar Alumni, Basheera Surty who is an Occupational therapist and runs an awesome enterprise, Diketo Inclusive Education, in early childhood development focusing on inclusion and special needs. I knew she would be the perfect partner for this venture and in April 2021 I'm proud to announce that we launched Affirmations For The African Child.
“The cards are a tool that children and their families can use to positively build the way children see themselves, accept themselves and love themselves.”
Basheera Surty is a South African social entrepreneur with a background in Occupational Therapy (OT). Her solution-driven thinking allows her to use her Occupational Therapy profession to bridge the gaps in society caused by systematic oppression. In 2015 she joined the Social Entrepreneurship Programme at the Gordan Institute of Business Science (GIBS). From here, she is the founder of Diketo Inclusive Education. Diketo transforms mainstream play-spaces and schools to become inclusive for all children, specifically children with disabilities.
Basheera is passionate about creating access to services for children and their families and she co-founded an online therapy platform called My Online Therapist in 2021. When not being a trailblazer in the entrepreneurship space, she can be found dancing, enjoying the company of friends and family or simply daydreaming.
